Meeting with Brimbank Council Staff

Two Friends of the McKay Gardens met with Council Staff today at the Brimbank Council Offices in Sunshine. We discussed registering the group as an official Council “friends” group for organizing working bees and co-operation with Council Parks staff.

The Council plans for redeveloping the former bowling club site and re-integrating it into the Historic park were presented. These plans will be discussed at the next Friends meeting on Saturday February 2nd 2008.

The proposed Friend’s social event and working bee were also discussed. This will probably be held in early Autumn.

  1. Dear Friends of the McKay Memorial GardensRecently I visited the Jeparit Pioneer Museum in the Wimmera where there is a huge shed full of Harveter machinery. The shed was built by a McKay descendant. Another visitor introduced us to the history of McKay and told us about the McKay memorial gardens.I have also recently started a blog and was interestd to see yours.I am from Port Melbourne where we too have a ‘garden city’ reflecting many of the ideals and ideas you speak about.I am also a member of a Friends group and strongly believe in the contribution they make in caring for parks. It would be great to have some pictures of the gardens on the blog to get an idea of what they look like.
